The Journey of inspiring Youths – from Veterinary Care to Water Conservative Pumps

On occasion of World Youth Skills Day, we invited youths of India to share their skills that made impacts. We were overwhelmed to receive great responses. Thank you for sharing your journeys. At the outset, we would like to feature two unique journeys of our youths straight from the Indian state – Manipur. Let’s check it out. Empowering Veterinary Care in Manipur Dr. Thiyam Vrubanata, a young veterinary entrepreneur from Manipur, is reshaping the region’s veterinary landscape through her enterprise, PV Polyvets. With a mission to deliver high-quality care to pets and livestock, she is also empowering local farmers and pet owners through innovation and community-focused solutions. Her journey began in 2017 while pursuing her Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences in Aizawl. Even during vacations, she actively worked as a tutor and interned at State Veterinary Hospitals, laying a strong foundation for her career. Facing the challenges of limited resources, competition from non-vets, and the setbacks of the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned home in 2021 and started a clinic in her own premises. Balancing her role as a veterinarian with a position at Agocons Agrotech, she sustained her livelihood while building her practice. Today, Dr. Vrubanata successfully runs two PV Polyvets clinics in Imphal, offering hygienic and compassionate care. Her innovative spirit led her to pursue an MBA at Manipur Technical University, where she won a gold medal for her dissertation on poultry marketing challenges—a step toward integrating veterinary science with rural market solutions. The installed HEP WaCo Pump Wahengbam Manimatum Meitei Revolutionizing Water Access in Hilly Regions with Eco-Friendly Innovation Wahengbam Manimatum Meitei, a student of BTech in Civil Engineering), is solving water supply challenges in the hilly terrains of Northeast India. With his forward-thinking technology startup, Reverate, Wahengbam is committed to take his flagship innovation, the HEP WaCo Pump (Hydro Energy Powered and Water Conservative Pump) to the next level. His innovation, HEP WaCo Pump is an eco-friendly, fuel-free, and electricity-free water pump designed to operate using the natural force of water. Based on the principle of “Water Hammer,” the HEP WaCo Pump is a modern evolution of the 200-year-old Ram Pump. It harnesses hydro energy to deliver water efficiently, making it an ideal solution for regions with limited access to power infrastructure. Not only does the pump conserve water, but it also supports sustainable agriculture by promoting organic farming in remote hill areas. Reverate has successfully tested two pilot models of the pump in Senapati and Ukhrul Districts of Manipur, showcasing its effectiveness in real-world conditions. Wahengbam has also filed a patent application for his design, aiming to scale this innovation across rural and off-grid communities. With sustainability at its core, REVERATE’s solution stands as a beacon for green technology in water management.
