The Journey of inspiring Youths – from Veterinary Care to Water Conservative Pumps

On occasion of World Youth Skills Day, we invited youths of India to share their skills that made impacts. We were overwhelmed to receive great responses. Thank you for sharing your journeys. At the outset, we would like to feature two unique journeys of our youths straight from the Indian state – Manipur. Let’s check it out. Empowering Veterinary Care in Manipur Dr. Thiyam Vrubanata, a young veterinary entrepreneur from Manipur, is reshaping the region’s veterinary landscape through her enterprise, PV Polyvets. With a mission to deliver high-quality care to pets and livestock, she is also empowering local farmers and pet owners through innovation and community-focused solutions. Her journey began in 2017 while pursuing her Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences in Aizawl. Even during vacations, she actively worked as a tutor and interned at State Veterinary Hospitals, laying a strong foundation for her career. Facing the challenges of limited resources, competition from non-vets, and the setbacks of the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned home in 2021 and started a clinic in her own premises. Balancing her role as a veterinarian with a position at Agocons Agrotech, she sustained her livelihood while building her practice. Today, Dr. Vrubanata successfully runs two PV Polyvets clinics in Imphal, offering hygienic and compassionate care. Her innovative spirit led her to pursue an MBA at Manipur Technical University, where she won a gold medal for her dissertation on poultry marketing challenges—a step toward integrating veterinary science with rural market solutions. With his forward-thinking technology startup, Reverate, Wahengbam is committed to take his flagship innovation, the HEP WaCo Pump (Hydro Energy Powered and Water Conservative Pump) to the next level. His innovation, HEP WaCo Pump is an eco-friendly, fuel-free, and electricity-free water pump designed to operate using the natural force of water. Based on the principle of “Water Hammer,” the HEP WaCo Pump is a modern evolution of the 200-year-old Ram Pump. It harnesses hydro energy to deliver water efficiently, making it an ideal solution for regions with limited access to power infrastructure. Not only does the pump conserve water, but it also supports sustainable agriculture by promoting organic farming in remote hill areas. Reverate has successfully tested two pilot models of the pump in Senapati and Ukhrul Districts of Manipur, showcasing its effectiveness in real-world conditions. Wahengbam has also filed a patent application for his design, aiming to scale this innovation across rural and off-grid communities. With sustainability at its core, REVERATE’s solution stands as a beacon for green technology in water management. Sharp Edges, Steady Stride – The Journey of Kiran Kanojia, India’s First Female Blade Runner

As India’s first female blade runner, Kiran Kanojia has become a symbol of resilience and inspiration. Let’s dive into the story of her remarkable journey. In the bustling town of Faridabad, Kiran grew up in a modest household of five—her parents and three siblings. From an early age, Kiran was known not for privilege, but for persistence. Her eyes sparkled with dreams, and her heartbeat with an unshakable resolve to rise beyond the limitations set by her circumstances. With her father’s unwavering belief in her potential and her own dedication to education, Kiran excelled in academics. She topped her university, earning a full fee waiver and carving a path to success through sheer merit. Her determination paid off when she secured a coveted campus placement at Infosys in Hyderabad—an achievement that brought pride to her family and hope to every girl in her neighbourhood. But fate had other plans. In 2011, on a journey home to Faridabad, Kiran’s life took a tragic turn. A group of robbers attacked her on the train and pushed her off. The fall cost her left leg—and nearly, her spirit. For many, that would have been the end of the road. For Kiran, it felt like her world had shattered. The pain wasn’t just physical—it was emotional, mental, and deeply personal. For three long years, she battled the darkness of despair. But amid the silence of suffering, two voices kept her going—her father’s quiet strength and the persistent encouragement of her doctor. Together, they helped her believe again. Stand again. Dream again. And so, Kiran with her will, made a decision that changed everything. She chose to run—not away from life, but toward it. She embraced blade running, and in doing so, reclaimed her identity not as a victim, but as a victor. In 2017, Kiran won Woman Transforming India Award by Niti Aayog. What began as a personal fight became a symbol of hope for thousands. She went on to complete six half marathons—each 21 kilometers of grit, sweat, and triumph. Each finish line she crossed sent a powerful message: Challenges don’t define us. How we respond to them does. When Kiran looks back at her life before 2011, she sees not a tragedy, but a transformation. What could have ended her journey instead ignited a legacy. She lives with her loving husband and two beautiful children, balancing motherhood and her mission with grace and grit. Today, Kiran is preparing to represent India in the Paralympics. Kiran’s journey is one of unimaginable courage and unwavering determination. But no journey, however inspiring, should be walked—or run—alone. Despite representing the very soul of resilience, Kiran faces barriers (and so are others) that can be overcome—not by willpower, but by collective support. Kiran Kanojia. A blade runner. A warrior. An inspiration. Government and corporates to come forward with sponsorships, mentorships, and CSR initiatives and invest in adaptive sports technology, prosthetics, and coaching ecosystems. There is a need for support from both the government and corporates, as the cost of prosthetics is extremely high. It becomes a significant challenge for individuals like Kiran to access high-end prosthetic limbs that offer greater mobility and independence in daily life. Kiran doesn’t run alone and not just for medals. She runs to change how society sees this condition, and to inspire millions who feel left behind, for every amputee who needs to believe again. But now she needs us—not just to cheer from the sidelines, but to step onto the field with her. Her story teaches us that the sky is not the limit—it’s just the beginning.

Towards a Green Planet: Say No to Plastics

Towards a Green Planet: Say No to Plastics Do we really understand what all factors can contribute to our planet’s health? Plastic pollution is one of the most urgent environmental challenges we face. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in landfills, oceans, and natural ecosystems, polluting soil and water, harming wildlife, and entering the human food chain. Plastics are inexpensive, durable, and widely used—but their long-lasting nature is exactly what makes them so dangerous. Did you know – single plastic bag can take up to 500 years to decompose. Microplastics have been found in sea salt, drinking water, and even human blood, posing risks we are only beginning to understand. To build a truly green planet, we must take collective action. This begins with saying no to single-use plastics—bags, straws, cutlery, bottles, and packaging. Alternatives like cloth and jute bags, bamboo products, glass containers, and compostable materials offer sustainable solutions. Governments, industries, and individuals must work together to reduce plastic production, invest in recycling systems, and support eco-friendly innovations. Education and awareness can empower communities to make better choices and advocate for cleaner environments. A green planet is not just a dream— it’s a responsibility. By eliminating plastics from our daily lives, we take an important step toward healing Earth and securing a healthier future for generations to come.
